Why geography works on a quiz-show board
A good geography board asks students to locate, to describe, and to explain. Locate is a map skill and belongs in the low rows. Describe is a landform or climate question and belongs in the middle. Explain is the human geography question, why the river made the city or why the mountains made the border, and it belongs in the 500s where teams have to talk before they answer.
Category ideas for geography jeopardy
Five columns, five values each. Copy a set as it stands, or swap in the names of your own units. The board draws your categories in the order you type them.
World geography foundations
Map Skills is latitude and longitude, scale, and compass directions. Give coordinates and ask for the country, or give two cities and ask which is farther north.
Regional study
Swap the region each unit and keep the columns. Why Here? is the human geography column: why the capital sits on that river, why the farms are in that valley.
United States geography
Which State? gives three clues and gets harder down the column: a shape and a neighbor at 100, a river and an industry at 500.
How to mix difficulty from 100 to 500
The value is a promise to the class about how hard the question is. Keep the promise and teams will reach for the 500s.
- 100LocateWhich continent is Brazil on? What is the capital of France?
- 200Identify a featureWhich river runs through Egypt? Which mountain range separates Europe from Asia?
- 300Read the mapA city sits at 40° N, 74° W. Which city? Which direction is Spain from Italy?
- 400Describe the patternWhy are the largest cities in this country on the coast?
- 500ExplainName two reasons a river valley supported an early civilization, and name one such valley.
Running geography jeopardy with teams
Quiz Show Grid runs 2 to 8 teams from one screen, with a scorecard for each. These four rules keep every team working every question.
- 1
Give every team a blank outline map and a dry-erase sleeve. Locate questions are answered by marking the map and holding it up, which is faster than spelling and fairer to new readers.
- 2
Require the full name on capitals and countries from the 300 row up, spelled closely enough to be unambiguous. Say the rule before the first pick.
- 3
On Why Here? and Explain cells, award the points for the reasoning. A team that names the wrong river but explains the right reason for the city earns the cell.
- 4
Open with Continents and Oceans so every team banks something, and open Why Here? last where the game is decided.

Pick or build a question bank
Open Quiz Show Grid and choose a bank from My Question Banks. No bank yet? Create with AI: pick the subject and grade, add a note about the topic, and it drafts 5 to 20 questions you edit before you play.
- 2
Set teams and categories
Choose 2 to 8 teams and name them, or let the game pick names. Type your category names, comma separated. Up to 25 questions fill one board at 100 to 500 points; a bigger bank adds a second board.
- 3
Start the show
Tap a cell and the question fills the screen. Press Reveal Answer (or the spacebar), tap + on every team that earned it, and Esc back to the board. Clear the board and Crown the Champions.
Geography jeopardy questions, answered
Can I put a map on the board?
Board questions are text. Project the map on a slide beside the board or hand out printed outline maps, and ask the question from the board.
How do I make capitals questions harder than 100 points?
Ask them in reverse (which country has this capital), ask for two at once, or ask which of two capitals is farther north. The ladder should feel like a climb.
Can I run the same board for several classes in one day?
Yes. Reset Game clears scores and keeps the bank loaded. Change the team names and play again.
