Chemistry jeopardy with a ladder from symbols to stoichiometry

Chemistry jeopardy works when the value ladder is honest: a 100 is an element symbol and a 500 is a balanced equation with a mole ratio. Quiz Show Grid builds that ladder from your question bank automatically, five values per column under category names you choose, and runs from one screen with team scorecards along the bottom.

Why chemistry works on a quiz-show board

Chemistry review tends to split students into those who can calculate and those who can recall, and a quiz hides that split. A board shows it. If the Periodic Table column goes first and Stoichiometry sits untouched, you have learned something about the class before the test does. Mix the two kinds of knowing in every column so teams cannot hide.

Category ideas for chemistry jeopardy

Five columns, five values each. Copy a set as it stands, or swap in the names of your own units. The board draws your categories in the order you type them.

Allow calculators and give a periodic table. Put the unit on every answer; a correct number with no unit on a 300 or above earns nothing.

How to mix difficulty from 100 to 500

The value is a promise to the class about how hard the question is. Keep the promise and teams will reach for the 500s.

  1. 100
Symbol or definitionWhat is the symbol for potassium? What is a cation?
  2. 200
Read the tableHow many valence electrons does oxygen have?
  3. 300
One procedureBalance H₂ + O₂ → H₂O. Find the molar mass of NaCl.
  4. 400
Two-step calculationHow many grams are in 2.5 moles of CO₂?
  5. 500
Reason or multi-stepGiven 10 g of Mg reacting with excess O₂, how many grams of MgO form? Show the ratio.

Running chemistry jeopardy with teams

Quiz Show Grid runs 2 to 8 teams from one screen, with a scorecard for each. These four rules keep every team working every question.

  1. 1

Whiteboards and calculators at every table, and one periodic table per team. Every team works every cell; the choosing team only chooses.

  2. 2

Units and significant figures are part of the answer on 300 and above. Announce it before the first pick so nobody feels ambushed.

  3. 3

After each calculation reveal, ask the winning team to state the conversion factor they used. That sentence is the review for everyone else.

  4. 4

Keep a running 'parking lot' on the whiteboard for questions that produced arguments. Settle them after the podium, not mid-game.

Build the board in 3 steps

  1. 1

Pick or build a question bank

Open Quiz Show Grid and choose a bank from My Question Banks. No bank yet? Create with AI: pick the subject and grade, add a note about the topic, and it drafts 5 to 20 questions you edit before you play.

  2. 2

    Set teams and categories

Choose 2 to 8 teams and name them, or let the game pick names. Type your category names, comma separated. Up to 25 questions fill one board at 100 to 500 points; a bigger bank adds a second board.

  3. 3

    Start the show

Tap a cell and the question fills the screen. Press Reveal Answer (or the spacebar), tap + on every team that earned it, and Esc back to the board. Clear the board and Crown the Champions.

Chemistry jeopardy questions, answered

Can I type subscripts and arrows?

Yes, paste Unicode characters such as H₂O and → into the question text. Writing formulas as H2O and -> also works and students read them fine on a projector.

How long should a chemistry board take?

Calculation-heavy boards run long. For a 50-minute period, load 20 questions and keep the 500 row to two-step problems. Twenty-five cells with four teams fills a block period.

Can I save a board and run it again next year?

Yes. The question bank lives in your account under My Question Banks, and the game's Save / Load tab also exports a bank to a file.

Run chemistry jeopardy on Thursday. Set it up tonight.
